Deutsche Gelleschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) has organised a clean-up exercise for River Auji in Kisumu County.
The exercise which will be conducted on March 22 during the World Water day is expected to attract members of the public who rely on the water from the river.
While announcing the plans by the GIZ organisation at Imperial Hotel during a meeting of civil societies yesterday on Wednesday, the technical advisor for Deutsche Gelleschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit Jenniffer Musyoki, called on Kisumu residents to turn up for the cleaning exercise in order to help in preserving the environment.
"We are urging residents and industries to stop throwing wastes to rivers and we hope that residents will turn up in large numbers for the cleaning exercise," said Musyoki.
She urged local communities to engage in activities that help in preserving the environment.
The river is among the highly polluted rivers in Kisumu County.
