Pupils from all public primary schools in Gesima zone will sit for monthly tests as a way of preparing them adequately for national examinations, area school heads have resolved.

This comes a month after the 18 public primary schools from the region received donations of printers and photocopiers from Seth Omao who is eyeing the Gesima ward MCA seat in 2017.

Speaking on Monday morning at Gesima, the school heads led by chairman Charles Bosire said the donations had made setting of exams easier hence the decision was set to improve academics in the zone drastically.

“I am extremely happy that we now have printers and photocopiers which will drastically reduce expenses that pertain setting of exams. We are targeting to improve our performances in national exams and that will only happen if we come up with local and we have agreed to come up with one to test our competence,” he said.

He said the local tests will be set by a team of experienced teachers from the zone and said parents would only be required to pay marking fee.

“This idea has been with us for a long time but now we want to implement it. Our own teachers will set the tests and we will only require a fee of Sh10 for marking from each child,” he added.

Treasurer of Gesima primary school heads Charles Getuno said the team would not relent to any external forces that would be of the idea to oppose the move.

“We know that not everyone will support it but we will resist any attempts to drag us back. This is for our own good because we want to improve our academics standards,” he added.
