Gituamba ward administrator Dorothy Wanjiru has called on area youth and women to get involved in Kiambu government projects by forming groups so as to access county funds.
Wanjiru said Tuesday the county government was carrying out many development projects worth millions of shillings such as roads, water and agricultural which the youth and women can be involved to earn an income.
“I am urging women and youth from this ward to form groups so as to do business with the county government as a way of improving their lives and promoting development,’ she urged.
“Our constitution has recognised the importance of youth and women in national and county development as 30 per cent of public tenders are a now preserve for the youth and women,” she said.
She said the quota would not be achieved if the two marginalised groups will not get out and contest for the tenders.
Wanjiru observed that opportunities for women and youth to grow and improve their lot were there but will not be realized unless they went looking for them.
‘Youths have been educated through campaigns and they already know that the best way to win government tenders and projects is by forming groups which have better financial muscles,’ she noted
The administrator who spoke to women groups in Gituamba township asked the youth to plant more trees during this rainy season to conserve the environment.
She noted that the county government was ready to help youths and women grow economically by creating conducive business environment and through allocation of adequate funds.
