Kisii women have yet against been challenged to rebuke traditions of subjecting them to being house wives and instead engage in agribusiness in the arable lands of Gusii highland.
Speaking at Kisii Jogoo Estate when she visited newly launched Women Agribusiness Sacco on Sunday, Senator Janet Ong’era expressed her disappointed with area women saying many of them solely depended on their husbands as bred winner in the family.
She urged women to engage in the agribusiness sector as a modest way of empowering them economically and lifting them from the abject poverty.
“I was born and raised in rural homes and I know what women go through. Many of us depend on our husbands solely to basic provision and this trend is not really good. We have fertile lands which we should come out as women and cultivate before engaging in agribusiness. Agribusiness is the best way to get women out of abject poverty,” she said.
Ong’era challenged them to join Agribusiness Sacco’s in the region which she had successfully launched in the last here years to make savings a part from requesting for loans.
“I have launched a number of women agribusiness Sacco’s around the region and I want to challenge my fellow women to make use of them by making savings for their future use and also going for affordable loans to expand their businesses,” she said.
