Gikuyu Council of Elders (Nakuru County) has condemned the attempt by opposition MPs to impeach president Uhuru Kenyatta saying that the head of state should be allowed to complete his term.

Speaking in Nakuru on Thursday, the chair of the council Mwangi Maigua said that the elders were outraged that opposition in Kenya was "trying to destabilise" the government through the impeachment motion.

He said that such motion was ill-intentioned and advised the opposition to engage in "constructive" activities that will better the lives of Kenyans.

He added that the president was legitimately in the office while claiming that any attempt to remove him was an assault to the constitution.

"The president should be left to complete his term without these unwarranted distractions," said the elder.

Mzee Stephen Mathiu from Njuri Njeke council of elders, who was in their company said elders were fully behind the presidency and asked MPs to offer workable solutions to various challenges facing Kenyans.
