Residents of Gitaru in Kikuyu Sub County have appealed to the government to boost security surveillance in the area.
The residents are complaining over deteriorating security and want the police to increase patrols.
Speaking on Wednesday, the locals allege rise in cases of crime claim existence of criminal gangs terrorising the area.
The locals allege that there is a gang that has been mugging and conducting robberies in the area.
“We are appealing to the government to deploy more police officers to address the rising insecurity within this area,” said James Shikuku, a taxi driver.
The taxi driver said that rising insecurity is causing fear among residents and businessmen. He said that though there are police patrols in the area security remains a challenge.
Brian Kamuyu, a bodaboda operator within Gitaru stage said that most operators are afraid of conducting their business beyond 7pm for fear of being attacked.
The bodaboda operator said that the alleged criminals station themselves at specific points before pouncing on their victims.
On Tuesday night a body of taxi operator was found in his car at Gitaru stage. The taxi driver is believed to have been murdered by people who posed as his customers.
According to the driver's friends, he picked the passengers from Tom Mboya street in Nairobi heading to Kikuyu on Tuesday at 10 pm only to be found dead early Wednesday.
Police have since launched investigations into the matter according to Kikuyu OCPD Mutune Maweu.
Speaking to the press on Wednesday, Maweu said security will be intensified across in the area. He asked the locals to share information will help the police arrest the killers.
