Githurai Youth Coordinator Maurice Mburu has urged youths in the area to apply for Identification Cards (IDs) in readiness for the voter registration exercise.

Speaking to youths  at Kahawa Wendani on Thursday, the Githurai Youth coordinator urged youths who have reached the required age to ensure they get the IDs.

He said that youths can only make the change they want in terms of electing the right leaders if they get IDs and take part in election.

“We have one month to the start of the voter registration exercise as announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and want to urge youths across Githurai to ensure they get IDs on time,” he said.

The Youth Coordinator urged government agencies with the responsibility of issuing IDs to help youths who have reached the registration age to get documents.

He also urged youths to come out in large numbers and register as voters when the exercise starts.

Mr Mburu said that it is the constitutional right and responsibility of every Kenyan to take part in electoral process.

He said that they have organized campaigns aimed at sensitising residents and more so youths on the need of taking part in electoral process.

IEBC has announced that voter registration exercise will start on 15 February to 15 March.

The Electoral commission has already advertised for over 2000 voter registration personnel who will oversee the exercise across the country.
