Kiambu governor William Kabogo has urged the national government to allocate more resources to counties to enable them provide effective services to the people.

Speaking to journalists in Kiambu town on Monday, Kabogo said that counties need more resources to advance development agenda.

He said that the current allocations may not be enough to address major development agenda.

Kabogo said that provision of more resources will see Kenyans benefit from devolution.

“The national government should pump more resources into counties for them to advance projects that will benefit the people,” he said.

Kabogo added that the essence of devolution was to bring services closer to the people and boost development.

The governor however lauded devolution, saying it has transformed lives of Kenyans.

He said that Kenyans stand to gain from the fruits of devolution if leaders at the county and national government level work together.

The Kiambu County boss said that he will work closely with the national government for development purposes.

On Saturday, during the closure of a two day governors summit held at the Sagana State Lodge in Nyeri, President Uhuru Kenyatta said counties will be allocated more funds, but asked them (counties) to cut down spending on travel and transport expenditures.

President Kenyatta urged counties to pump more money into development projects to enable Kenyans access services.
