Internally displaced persons in Borabu have yet again hit at the government on its perceived discrimination in resetting them, over seven years since they were displaced from various parts of the country during 2007/2008 post election violence.
Speaking to this writer on Wednesday in their temporary shelter that was donated by a local businessman, they said the entire exercise of resettling some of them was fraudulent and challenged the government to reward genuine IDPs.
Through their spokesperson Jared Ongwenyi, they challenged the ministry of devolution and planning to carry out a fresh audit to ascertain the justified beneficiaries.
“We are a group of twelve families and we were displaced in 2008. We took shelter here courtesy of a Good Samaritan who now wants to develop his land. We were never compensated and I wonder the criteria they are using to identify genuine beneficiaries,” he said.
They threatened to wage mass protests to the county government to push the local leadership to intervene and have their plights addressed by relevant authorities.
“The good Samaritan is planning to develop his land. We have nowhere else to go and it’s important that the government listens to our plights. We will match to the county offices because they are close to us and push them to reach those responsible to help us. The ministry of devolution should revise the list of beneficiaries and incorporate genuine beneficiaries,” he added.
They also said that the government was biased in identifying those who were displaced, saying they had justified their current state to a number of government officials in previous attempts to get help.
