The department of land in the county government of Nyamira has been challenged to start fresh enquiry on illegal acquisitions of land in former settlement scheme in Borabu.
Borabu MP Ben Momanyi on Wednesday alleged that a number of senior governments had used their positions in previous governments to allocate themselves huge tracks of land irregularly.
Momanyi said he was ready to give credible evidence on the matter and urged the county government to constitute a commission of enquiry to the matter.
“Many of us know that several tracks of land belonging to the government were irregularly acquired by senior government officials some of whom are still serving. They used their powers to allocate themselves the huge tracks irregularly and time has come for them to be subjected to the rule of law,” he said.
Momanyi urged the county government to facilitate swift recovery of the land so that its used in resettling people who were displaced from elsewhere in the currently during the 2007/08 PEV.
“Some of these people are in possession of fake tittle deeds and this is the time for the county government to act. We want those lands revoked from them and awarded to PEV victims some of whom are living in deplorable conditions,” he added.
Among the people he alleged to have benefited in the approximated 3300 Ha of land are prominent chiefs, senior politicians and surveyors whom he said he will expose them once the county constitutes an independent committee that will work with locals.
