Speaking today in Limuru, at a public baraza to sensitise youth on crime, Charles Mwai, a security consultant, said terrorists are taking advantage of poverty to recruit youths into their networks. He said that if youths have something they can do to regulate finances, then the risk of them being recruited in terrorist networks would be minimal.

He also highlighted on how youths end up engaging in crime because of lack of jobs stating that if only these youths were given help with their projects, then crime would reduce greatly. He said youth projects such as car wash business should not be overlooked by the government but instead they should listen to their grievances and help them build their projects greatly.

''These youths are the main target for terrorists because they know finances are their biggest problem yet they can solve that and recruit them,’’ said Mwai.

He said that most youths in the area had complained of not receiving youth funds for their projects which demoralises their efforts hence forcing them to join criminal activities. He also warned parents against sending their children out of their houses as soon as they clear high school as they are still fresh from school and most of them cannot live on their own yet.
