A Githunguri land buying company director has supported President Uhuru Kenyatta’s move to freeze registration of land buying companies countrywide, in a bid to curb land woes involving members of the public.
John Waweru, who is also a Human Rights activist based in Ruiru, said that there are a lot of irregularities in the companies dealing with land, as members of public are still losing their property, despite being managed by the companies.
He added that there has been a lot of leadership wrangles in the land companies and that the only solution to the increased supremacy battles which end up in crisis, is to dissolve all companies.
Speaking to this writer at Ruiru Town on Wednesday, Waweru said he will mobilise a group of land owners who have suffered bitterly in the arms of the embattled Thika land registrars, to push for the transfer of the registrars.
“The Thika land registry, despite being digitalised, has been involved in a lot of graft cases. The officials demand money from the elderly and poor residents of Kiambu County, before they issue them with title deeds,” said Waweru.
He claimed that the poor who cannot raise the cash either lose their land to the rich who claim to be the rightful owners, or even die under mysterious circumstances, with their land ending up being sold to unknown people.
Waweru called upon the members of public to support his idea of pushing for the cleansing of the land registry in Thika, which according to him, has been marred with corruption.
