Deputy President William Ruto has said that the government will no longer tolerate leaders and politicians who are fond of making inflammatory remarks.
Speaking during a church service at the St Bernadette Catholic in Ngoingwa Ward in Thika on Sunday, Ruto warned that perpetrators of tribal politics and hate speech will be dealt with according to the law.
The DP said that the government through respective agencies and commissions had stepped up efforts to tame hate speech and incitement.
“The government will not tolerate politicians and leaders who are fond of making inflammatory remarks that could easily cause disunity and animosity among Kenyans,” he said.
The Deputy President asked politicians to weigh what they say adding that it is the responsibility of every leader to preach unity instead of animosity.
Ruto added that the country will be able to actualise its development agenda in a peaceful environment. The DP at the same time asked Kenyans to be wary of and avoid leaders who are fond of spreading tribal politics.
The deputy President warned that tribal politics being spearheaded by some leaders was not good for the country’s progressiveness.
Speaking at the same church service, Thika lawmaker Alice Ng’ang’a also called for unity among Kenyans. The MP said that unity will see the country successfully achieve its development goals.
The lawmaker appealed to politicians to work together and push for service delivery and development to Kenyans.
