Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama has strongly defended remarks he made about development in the region while being interviewed on QFM in a morning show last week.

The remarks had come under immense scrutiny with Manga MCA Peter Maroro leading the onslaught along other MCAs, blaming the governor of ‘being myopic’ on development.

“It’s really amazing that he (Nyagarama) can go on a public radio and claim that he has helped those who are willing. I think the remarks were myopic and he needs to tell us what he meant by that. If he means that one has to beg him in order to work then something is wrong,” Maroro was quoted on Saturday at a function in his backyard.

But in a quick rejoinder during a church service at Bombo in Nyamira, the county boss said the remarks were made in good faith and claimed that certain politicians had incited residents against his leadership, making it difficult for him to launch projects in those perceived opposition strongholds.

“My remarks were not guided by ill motives. What I simply meant is that I have worked in those areas that people are willing to support my development philosophy. Sometimes it is difficult to work for people who have been intoxicated by opposition politicians who are out to bring me down but I will always try hard to work in all areas,” he said.

He urged members of the political class to desist from politicking simple issues hence rising political temperatures.

“I am ready to help and I repeat but that can happen when people are willing to support what we are intending to do. Let’s desist from politicking all the time,” he added.
