Nakuru governor Kinuthia Mbugua has said that his administration will not sack any county employee because that is an expensive undertaking.
Speaking on Thursday during staff end year party in Nakuru Boys High School, Mbugua said that the county government was not in a position to offer commensurate send off packages to retrenched employees and admitted that doing so would only promote poverty and misery among the sacked workers.
The governor's sentiments are likely to place him at loggerheads with Senate's Public Accounts Committee which recommended that some 5,200 county staff should be sent packing to reduce the county's wage bill.
The senate committee in its ruling noted that out of Sh7 billion county budget, only Sh800 million was used in development related activities while the rest went to recurrent expenditure.
Mbugua however conceded the swollen wage bill issue but equally ruled out retrenchment, arguing that it was not the best alternative to address the discrepancy.
