Meru Governor Peter Munya has continued with his onslaught on the proposed formation of Jubilee party, terming it a ‘waste of time’ and an infringement to democracy.
Mr Munya has been in the frontline opposing the formation of the party which is believed to be the vehicle for re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2017 polls.
Speaking to the reporters on Friday in Kisii, the Chairman of Governor’s council urged the masterminds of the plan to withdraw the proposal saying it will deny Kenyans variety of choices.
“Sometimes it really sounds awkward when few people sit somewhere and propose merger of parties without consulting. This is a waste of time and infringement to democracy. Those people behind it should consider dropping the idea because it’s unpopular and probably doomed to perish,” said Mr Munya.
He accused the Jubilee leaders of ‘bullying’ other politicians and warned of a possible shock in 2017 if the President and his Deputy fails to suspend the merger plan.
“Some people in Jubilee are out to bully other politicians. The president and his deputy should suspend the merger because it will be the begging of major troubles. Otherwise, I will oppose the move (merger) because that will be denying people variety of choices in elections. This is a democratic country,” he added.
On corruption, Mr Munya slammed top Jubilee leaders mentioned in NYS scan and called for their prosecution by investigative agencies.
“When a minor incident takes place in counties, Duale (Aden) and Murkomen (Kipchumba) are on the frontline calling for our resignation. Now that they have been mentioned, we are keen to see them prosecuted. It’s now evident that the national government is corrupt,” he said.
