For those who had the privilege of being brought up in Nakuru back in the 90s understand just what I mean.
There was a lot of outdoor activities that we got engaged in as children, especially boys. Apart from playing football made from papers, famously known as "munyore", we played games such as hide n seek, hookie, bano, matekee, muslido just to mention a few.
Then we would go bird hunting "mwindoo" where we would often get ourselves in trouble for breaking glass windows as a result of stray stones aimed at birds living in church roofs.
Our adventures extended to going swimming at River Ndarugu and eating wild fruits that grew along the river bank.
Often we would return home to a proper beating after losing our clothes to the Rhonda ng'ambo kids who stole them while we were swimming, but that never discouraged us from visiting the river at every opportunity.
In the process, we made so many friends and foes alike thus we would always walk in gangs for protection because there were rivalries among estates. The most notorious estates were Rhonda, Shabaab, Bondeni and London.
I look at our children today busy burning animations movies and playing ps4, always stuck indoors and I feel like we were the happiest and luckiest generation. If you grew up here I know you know what I mean! Nakuru my home! my town!
