Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Hassan Abdi has decried the low number of youths applying for Uwezo Fund despite the money being at their disposal.
Speaking Saturday during Jamhuri Day celebrations at 64 stadium in Eldoret, Hassan said despite the national government disbursing the monies to counties, very few youths have come up to apply for the funds, leaving it to women.
"In Uasin Gishu County, we have Sh149 million which is yet to be utilised by the youths who only leave it for women,"he said.
The commissioner said youth are lamenting if lack of jobs and millions of shillings are lying idle in the bank.
"I urge youths to apply for the funds in large numbers to improve their livelihoods. Don't shy away, it is your fund, it is meant for youths,"he said.
Abdi also urged youths to form and join groups and register them to access the funds.
He also said youths should also apply for the 30 percent tenders offered by both the national and county governments
