Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Hassan Abdi has warned motorists who flout traffic rules that they will be arrested and prosecuted.
Speaking in his Eldoret office on Monday, Hassan said over 70 per cent of accidents experienced daily are as a result of drivers neglecting traffic rules.
“Drivers should be careful especially during this festive season by observing road rules among them observing road signs, carrying the required numbers of passengers and not driving while drunk ," he said.
He said motorists should keep in mind that they are ferrying people and should not endanger their lives.
“We have started a crackdown on all the unroadworthy vehicles and we arrested 20 matatus. Anyone who will be found going against the Michuki rules will be arrested and prosecuted since they are putting the lives of their passengers in danger,” he warned.
He also gave cautioned boda boda operators against carrying more than one passenger stating they too will be arrested and their licences confiscated.
“This festive season we will ensure that motorists abide by traffic laws to prevent the unnecessary accidents,” he said.
He challenged the public to help them enforce the rules by refusing to board vehicles that have not complied with Michuki rules.
