Githunguri Primary School’s head teacher Deborah Kithuka has praised Mavoko MP Patrick Makau for what she termed as exemplary leadership.

Addressing a public meeting in the school’s compound on Monday, Kithuka said the legislature had made the school best place to be admired.

“This school used to be congested with children in shuttered iron sheet structures, it is now a storey building courtesy of the MP as you can all see,” said Kithuka.

Kithuka said the school had gotten eight classrooms courtesy of Makau through the constituency development fund and more were coming up.

“Makau is the number one MP in the entire Machakos County, he has tremendously left a mark in all schools within the Mavoko constituency. He has indeed touched children lives,” said Kithuka.

The head teacher however noted that the school was receiving more children at a high rate hence need for more support to effectively accommodate the increasing numbers.

Kithuka said though there was already adequate space for the children to learn in terms of classrooms, the school was experiencing shortage of desks for children.

She urged the area legislature to consider the school and allocate it more CDF funds for purchase of desks and lockers for children in higher primary.

Kithuka also called on the MP to come to the teachers’ rescue by constructing them an administration block part of which they will use as their staff room because they currently have none and instead use iron sheet structures that she argued was unfavorable due to extreme weather conditions which the region experiences.
