A senior health officer from Nyamira County has denied claims that health officials from Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital were discriminating patients from Nyamira County in emergency treatment cases.

Patients from Nyamira County were allegedly turned away or subjected to long hours of waiting before they were offered treatment at the Kisii hospital.

Speaking during a morning show at Minto FM on Tuesday, Dr Douglas Bosire slammed those who were propagating the rumour and said Kisii and Nyamira County were enjoying cordial relationship.

“It is true that I have been receiving information from a section of residents that they were subjected to discrimination when seeking medication at Kisii Referral, but I want to be categorically clear that the information is inaccurate and unsubstantiated. The two counties (Kisii and Nyamira have a cordial relationship therefore, the information circulating is malicious propaganda,” he said.

Bosire said the referral hospital was serving patients from across the country and wondered why only Nyamira residents were complaining.

“The hospital serves residents from very many counties especially in South Nyanza (Migori, Homabay inclusive) and its astonishing why we haven’t heard similar complaints. I think our people are always wants to incite peaceful residents,” he added.

Bosire also acknowledged shortages of medical staff in a number of hospitals but reiterated the commitment of the county government to solve the predicament expeditiously.

“We haven’t fully equipped our medical centers with enough medical staff but we have a massive plan, that will be solved and the process of recruitment started recently,” he said.
