Residents of Esise and Nyansiongo wards have a reason to smile after the county government of Nyamira bought two new water pumps.
The equipment, bought at a cost of Sh300,000 will be used for pumping water to institutions.
Speaking during the commissioning of the pumps at Nyansiongo on Sunday, Nyansiongo MCA Jackson Mogusu lauded the efforts of the county government to facilitate pumping of water from a nearby dam for domestic use.
He said the move will see residents avoiding to incur extra costs that is paid to water vendors as part of services rendered.
“I am happy that the county government has at last listened to out plea. We all support development and therefore, I am sure this is a nice move that will help area residents significantly especially during dry spells,” he said.
Mogusu urged residents to take advantage of the ongoing rains to harvest water ahead of the expected dry spell in January.
“We must be prepared always and not just depending on the water from our springs and dams. The dry spell is ahead probably on January or February hence it will be proper if we harvest rain water,” he said.
Assistant Chief Water Officer Francis Oyaro said the county government was keen to make water affordable and accessible to all residents of the county.
“We have identified needy areas as a county government and programs are in place to ensure the county is well served with water,” he said.
