A heavy morning downpour on Thursday disrupted business in Nairobi's Kibera slums.

Businesses had to close following the heavy shower as residents scampered for shelter when the skies opened.

Nairobi is among the counties in the country experiencing heavy rains coupled by strong winds.

A hour after the 8am rain subsided, traders had not resumed trade as roads remained flooded.

Veronica Mwangi a second hand clothes dealer said her business had been affected by the heavy rain.

She said since the rains began, she has been making losses as since customers numbers have dropped.

"Many people fear walking in mud, and since the rains began, very few people come to the market," she told this reporter.

Toi market in Kibera is the most affected since the ground hosting it is muddy.

The county government of Nairobi has been digging trenches in the city in a bid to control floods.
