Properties in Matuu, Yatta Sub-County were destroyed on Tuesday following heavy rains accompanied by strong winds.
The Equity Bank building roof was swept away by the strong wind, paving way for rain water to flow into the bank causing destruction.
Matuu High School was not spared either with the strong winds destroying the dining hall and a section of the teachers quarters.
Several business owners and residents were also affected as their shops, business stores and houses were destroyed.
Stephen Wambua, a business owner in the region, said he had incurred huge losses following the heavy rains.
“The strong wind and heavy rains left me counting losses as all the goods that were in my shop were soaked in water. The county government should use the disaster funds that were set aside to help us salvage our lives,” said Wambua.
Mutuu MCA David Manyolo promised to find a way to help the affected.
"The county government will ensure all the residents and business owners who were affected receive compensation. The different county departments should team up as soon as possible to ensure help is granted to the affected," said Manyolo.
