There was heavy traffic jam in Limuru, Kwabira, Ngarariga and Kamandura areas on Sunday night because of a trailer carrying wheat that allegedly fell along the Mai-Mahiu road and blocked the road.
Vehicles using the Mai-Mahiu road which are mostly long distance trucks sought alternative routes that meant going through the Kwabira shopping center.
Lucy Wambui, a resident of Kwabira said that she was forced to alight a kilometre from her actual destination and walk the rest of the way as traffic was at a standstill.
“Every small road in Kwabira had with traffic; even the motorcycles had no room to maneuver. People stayed for hours in the heavy traffic jam,” said Wambui.
“I saw vehicles using the Manguo route and decided to follow them as I was informed that we can still use the Kabuku-UN route to Nairobi,” said James Onyancha, a motorist who also experienced the traffic inconvenience.
He said the alternative route was longer than the highway but that it would save him hours of being stuck in traffic. Onyancha was driving from Kakamega.
Bernard Mwangi, another motorist said that he was heading to Limuru from Kikuyu which usually takes him 30 minutes but it took him 2 hours to reach his destination.
