Nyamarutu village, Menengai ward is located about three miles from Nakuru town and a few metres from Kitit.

It is a stone's throw away from the Nakuru-Solai road.

It may be a village but don't get it wrong, it is as modern as all other estates in Nakuru.

It is equipped with all the social amenities; electricity, water, a small shopping centre and the likes.

As a visitor, one thing will strike you as odd in this community. Girls below 18, some as young as 14 are either expectant or mothers already!!! Shocking isn't it? It is however the bare truth.

It has become a trend of this area that the girl-child will not get a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education certificate.Who are the fathers you ask. They themselves are teenagers too. Not much older than the girls. They too dropout of school and nobody seems to be concerned.

I call upon area MCA Mr Michael Macharia to intervene immediately.

Education in this day and age is important if you are to survive the very competitive job market.

Even non-skilled labour such as security guards are at times required to have a KCSE certificate.

Some youths would have liked to continue with their studies but financial difficulties cut short their dreams.

Our MP David Gikaria should also step in and see to it that the situation changes.

Bursaries could be offered to those without the means to pay fees and a day care set up for the children so that the young mothers can go back to school.

It is their right as Kenyans to get education despite their predicament. This is the cry for help for residents of Nyamarutu.
