Thika East Deputy County Commissioner Solomon Komen has called on area residents to remember the elderly and the destitute during this festive season.

Speaking in his Kilimambogo office on Thursday, Komen said it was always important to take care of the elderly whom he referred to as societal props.

"We cannot afford to neglect the people who tie our society together and act as our props," Komen said. 

He added: "We always seek their wise counsel during adversity and hard times. We should seek to pay them back by ensuring that they are well taken care of." 

the deputy county commissioner also encouraged those with something to share with those who don't have saying that December is a month when the spirit of sharing should be extended. 

"The poor are part of our society and we should not despise them. Today it is them that we are giving, tomorrow it might be us who need their help. So, let us help them", he added. 

The DCC said that well-wishers should feel free to approach his office to ask for facilitation and distribution of their donations to the needy if such a need arises.
