Kiambu county government has been challenged to allocate more funds to Gatundu North sub county to help control animal diseases.
Speaking from his office in Kamwangi on Monday 23rd November 2015, the Gatundu North sub county deputy director Monicah Gakuya noted that the funds set aside in the last financial year was not enough to fight the diseases that often affected the area animals.
"We only receive Kshs. 1.73 million for both campaigns and operations in the fighting of animal diseases. This has been reduced further to Kshs. 1.08 million in this financial year. We are therefore appealing to Kabogo's government to intervene and allocate us enough funds that will help in the reduction of animal deaths caused by seasonal diseases," he said.
Gakuya who is also a veterinary doctor noted that a healthy animal is ideal for human consumption and also attracts good market prices.
"Farmers who rear healthy animals benefit from fresh manure which is effectively used to grow crops; healthy animals are also essential in attracting huge market prices," he said.
The deputy director requested the county leadership to improve their dedication to agriculture and more so in the livestock sector by allocating the sector more funds.
