Teenage girls in Mavoko sub county have been urged to desist from engaging in prostitution and instead focus on their future for a better living.
Speaking to this reporter in her office in Athi River town on Friday, Bondeni Children Rescue Centre's Director, Florence Gitau said many girls were engaging in in prostitution.
"I am perturbed to see how young girls get into prostitution in this area, it is seriously embarrassing and painful as a mother," said Gitau.
Ms Gitau noted that the number of teenage girls who were getting lured to sex trade in the sub county was high as the December festive season approaches.
She said majority had moved to major towns in the area such as Mlolongo, Syiokimau, Athi River and Makutano junction all within Machakos County.
Ms Gitau said the commercial sex business had attracted many of the girls in the area due to several track drivers who make stop overs especially in the towns to spend their nights while on transit.
She expressed fears that the situation would shatter the futures of majority of such girls some of who she said had just cleared their primary and secondary school education hence had to forge ahead in a bid of bettering their futures.
Gitau said that the girls had high chances of getting HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Infections among other diseases.
