Hospital Ward MCA Mwangi Wamwangi has called upon youth to be visionary and business oriented during and after their education.
Wamwangi said the government has delayed in creating employment opportunities for the youth, urging them to become innovative in a bid to create wealth.
Speaking in Thika town on Thursday, the Kiambu county legislator said unemployment had stalled development in the county, as many youth depend on their parents and guardians thus not much capital is being made in the county.
He said youth from Thika and its environs have the ability to create opportunities for themselves through activities of their interests rather than waiting for employment opportunities to be created by politicians.
He called on the county government of Kiambu to engage youth through entrepreneurship programmes, in a bid to equip them with investment ideas.
“The county government should come up with programmes aimed at educating youth on entrepreneurship and how to invest in projects, to help them make ends meet,” said Wamwangi.
The MCA expressed concern with the increase in the number of crime and drug abuse cases in the area, citing unemployment as the major contributor to the problem.
He however, lauded the fight against illicit brew in the ward saying it has helped in reducing crime in the area.
The MCA further called on well wishers to help youth realise their dreams.
