It goes without saying that a meat point, commonly known as a butchery, should be in a clean state for the hygiene purposes.
But sometimes this is not the same case as noted in Kisii town open market -- meat is displayed in open butcheries like vegetables!
In this case, the meat will get dusty when the wind blows. In addition to that, flies will be seen on these junks of meat sucking some meat juices.
As compared to other regions, still in Kisii County, like Mwembe estate, Keroka and the likes, meat points are in enclosed joints. This marks at least a notable percentage of hygiene.
"These butcheries are so open. They are disgusting to me thus cannot buy meat here! I see flies landing on these meats then you expect me to buy? No! I cannot buy infection," Alloys Bitange, a taxi driver, said.
The area where these butcheries are located is so messy that one may think a sewer has burst, thus leaving a cloud of smelly gasses but as long as the businesses still run, most owners do not mind.
The Kisii county government, under the health office, should bring sanity in the market to reduce any chances of disease outbreaks that are associated with dirty and foods.
