Matatu operators plying Kisumu-Bondo Road and Kisumu-Busia road have found a new and interesting way of dodging to bribe traffic police check.
When they carry excess passengers from Kisumu town and they approach a traffic police checking point, the extra passengers are told to alight and use bodaboda to cross the traffic police post.
The matatu, with now just enough recommended 14 passengers, will then cross without having to bribe the police.
After crossing, the matatu will then wait for those extra passengers that were using bodaboda at a safe distance and then the journey will resume with excess passengers.
The matatu operators are collaborating with bodaboda riders to accomplish this mission.
At least, the money that would have been used to bribe the traffic police now finds its way into the hands of the bodaboda accomplices.
