Occupants of different departments of the Huduma centre building in Kisumu have been urged to work towards paying bills of utilities.

According to the Kisumu County Commissioner John Elungata the occupants have a water bill of Sh1.4 million and the electricity bill is Sh720,000.

Elungata has directed that all departments must pay for what they consume, he indicated that if the trend continued then he would be forced to write to various national headquarters of defaulting departments for further action.

“When you use a service, you should pay for it. Occupants of Huduma Centre Building are the ones who have amassed this huge water and electricity bills, therefore I don’t see the reason why an outsider should come in and pay,” said Elungata.

Elungata was speaking in Kisumu on Wednesday during Kisumu county service delivery committee meeting.

This suggestion was welcomed by some departments that claimed not to have been funded for the past three years.

Some of the affected departments through their representatives noted that it would be a good move to justify the need to be funded for both operations and programmes.

Elungata further urged the department to strive and clear the bills on time, to avoid grounding of services from those offering them.
