Most of the road accidents experienced on roads within Mavoko sub-county, especially on Nairobi - Mombasa and Nairobi - Namanga Highway are due to carelessness among motorists.
This is according to the area Fire Brigade supervisor, Duncan Kamatu who said such motorists flout traffic rules thereby risking their own lives and those of other road users.
Addressing the press at his office in Athi River town on Wednesday, Kamatu said a number of drivers had been reportedly over speeding before engaging in either serious or fatal accident in the region.
Kamatu said the drivers some of who drive on busy roads while under the influence of alcohol or other illicit substances are a great threat to other road users in the region.
He warned that such indiscipline on the road if tolerated would expose more of innocent road users in the region to danger citing a fatal incident that claimed lives of three people on Mombasa Road last December after a female driver attempted to overtake carelessly leading to the crash.
"According to eyewitnesses, the woman was crazily over speeding. She tried to overtake a bus at a corner in Mto Wa Mawe area before meeting an oncoming trailer that hit her car head on smashing it leading to the fatalities instantly," said Kamatu.
Kamatu said boda-boda operators, bicycle riders and pedestrians were equally vulnerable on the road due to over speeding motorists hence urged the group of road users to be always cautious and more careful while on the road to ensure personal safety.
He said his office had embarked on sensitizing various road users from the road county on basic road safety measures in a bid to ensure reduced accidents on the roads.
