Jomo Kenyatta Foundation chairperson Walter Nyambati has termed critics labelling him a project to Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama as ‘misguided and political infants’.

The former Kitutu Masaba MP’s entrance to Nyamira gubernatorial race had elicited sharp criticism from a number of residents from his backyard who termed it as a major blockade to leading aspirant Charles Mochama who also hails from the region.

But Nyambati defended his entrance to race, saying the region needs someone who is familiar with both management and politics to steer economic growth.

“I declared my interest in the gubernatorial race because what our county needs is someone with strong management and political ground of which I am best suited. I am ready to steer economic growth and create job opportunities,” he said.

“I have never been his (Nyagarama) project because we’ve never even talked before. Those labeling me as a project are misguided and probably political infants. I am a self-made politician and I think if at all someone is a project, then he (Nyagarama) should be one,” he said amidst laughter.

He accused the county leadership of nepotism and called for a total overhaul of the leadership in the 2017 polls.

“The governor is promoting nepotism by employing his kin and close friends. Tenders meant for youths are being given to his relatives. This is some of the issues we want to root out of our county. I request you to vote them out and choose visionary leaders. I am ready to carry the mantle,” he added.
