Nyamira senator Okong’o Mong’are has denied incriminating report that he was working secretly with the ruling Jubilee government to undermine his side of coalition CORD.
This comes a day after reports emerged that the FORD-Kenya Senator had engaged in fierce exchanges with his Mombasa counterpart Hassan Omar after the former was said to have sided with Jubilee coalition during proceedings of the Senate.
Speaking in his backyard at Bondeni during a fundraiser, Okong’o said his support to the CORD coalition was unconditional and consistent.
“I am wondering that some papers can claim that I differed with my colleague (Omar) and even wanted to exchange blows. That is inaccurate reporting and I want to confirm that I am a member of CORD and my contributions have been consistent and unconditional,” he said.
He also said that his relationship with the Mombasa Senator was ‘fantastic’ and called upon Kenyans to ignore the media reports.
“I have worked with him (Omar) even before we met in the senate because I am also a human rights lawyer. My relationship with him is fantastic and whatever the papers reported should be ignored,” he said.
Okong’o rule out possibilities of working with Jubilee coalition led government and accuse it of being inconsistent in the fight against graft.
“I have never even dreamt of working with Jubilee because I differ with the coalition substantially on the war against graft. They are rigid to take actions on corrupt individuals and waits for pressure from the opposition or NGO’s before taking actions,” he added.
