Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have called on the new Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri to speed up their resettlement process.

The IDPS claimed that the CS should go for a fact finding tour seeking to understand their plight.

National IDPs' chairman Peter Kariuki pointed out that there was need for the Kiunjuri to conduct an audit in their office.

“He should be able to ask for accountability for at least Sh15 billion that went to towards the resettlement of IDPS since 2008. A lot of money has been wasted in the process of claiming to resettle us,” said Kariuki.

Kariuki was speaking to the press in Nakuru on Wednesday where he welcomed the presidential move to reshuffle the cabinet.

He pointed out that there was need to work with the New CS for lands Joseph Kaimenyi so as to ensure that all of the people who were affected were resettled.

Kariuki also expressed concern over the neglecting of the Integrated IDPs in the country

“Many did not even receive the Sh10,000 that the government was offering as compensation to the IDPS ,” he added.

According to Kariuki only 8,000 out of the 12,000 families that were displaced in the violence that rocked the country after the 2007 disputed elections have been resettled.
