The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), has confirmed they are ready to conduct a free and fair election come 2017.

This is according to IEBC chairperson, Isaak Hassan, who noted that the commission has allocated sh30 billion to facilitate all its operations for the next two and a half years.

Addressing the press, after concluding a retreat at the Great Rift Valley Lodge in Naivasha ahead of a national voter registration exercise slated for next month, Hassan noted that all machines were in place for a successful voting exercise.

''We are targeting to register 8 million voters before the 2017 polls. All we call for is eligible Kenyans to turn out in large numbers and register so as to prepare voter registries on time," he said.

The IEBC chairperson noted that only 2 billion had been budgeted for, thus making it hard for them to conduct it at a sub-location level as it is the norm.

"We chose to go with wards because we felt the normal sub- locations would inconvenience us and time is not on our side," added Hassan.

The 2017 polls will be the second under Isaac Hassans' patronage after conducting a free, fair and independent election in 2013.
