In the last general elections, Independent electoral and boundary commission, IEBC gave technology a try by computerizing their system, a move that was supported by many Kenyans as it was thought to reduce cases of irregularities!
The IEBC, therefore, imported Biometric voter registration kits that eased the process of voter registration as it was accurate and fast as well.
During the election day, officials of IEBC used electronic voter identification devices and the voting process seemed smooth and transparent.
During the tallying process, the electronic system crashed and IEBC resorted to manual counting.
This is where Kenyans started doubting the credibility of the IEBC.
Concerned Kenyans wondered why IEBC couldn't have double checked their electronic system before using it.
Was the system deliberately crashed for ill motives of stealing votes during manual tallying?
Right now voter registration is on-going across the country and the same BVR kits are being used.
We hope the IEBC will learn from its past mistakes.
