Ogra Foundation Director Dr Hezron Makobewa has moved to set the record straight that he is drilling water for residents not to entice them to elect him as Kisumu County governor in 2017.
Makobewa said for the last 15 years, his organisation has been drilling water within Kisumu and that should not be misconstrued that he is interested in their votes.
He said his aim is to provide clean water to locals who have continued to suffer trekking long distances in search of water.
“I am not on this because of your votes for 2017, I have been drilling water and engaging in different projects long before even devolution came into being,” he said.
Speaking at Lisana secondary school in Nyakach constituency on Friday where his organisation drilled the 42nd water project, Makobewa said the water will be piped to serve the nearby community, churches, markets, health centres and schools.
He announced that he has provided several medical equipment in Nyabondo mission hospital long before even devolution.
“For the mothers who have given birth in Nyabondo hospital and for patients who have spent at the hospital, remember that these beds are my projects, I donated them eight years ago,” he said.
Makobewa said all these he did before the post of governor was created under the new constitution, noting that the people should not view his development as vote hunting.
He said when the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission will blow the whistle is when he will start hunting for votes across the county to be the Governor of Kisumu in 2017.
