The Kiambu County government has recorded an increase in the revenue collected in the area.

The increase in revenue has been brought about by the commitment and strategic collection of the revenue according to the sub-county administrator, Mohamud Abdi.

Abdi said that since he took over Ruiru as an administrator in 2015, the revenue has been increasing and is currently at sh17.2 million from sh8.2 million in a month. He said the revenue that used to go uncollected due to various reasons, is rarely lost due to the implementation of the strategic plan they constituted as a sub-county.

Abdi stated that the sub-county revenue officers have assisted the revenue collectors in ensuring that all the loopholes that used to see funds get lost and stolen by corrupt collectors are collected and safely reach the county government treasury.

He added that the automation of the revenue collection earlier in 2015 has given his office an easier task as they don’t have to closely monitor the collection. The county government has set up strategies to ensure they produce more funds from the various services they offer to the members of the public.

''We are still looking for ways to raise more funds from the services we offer and we are sure we will attain our target as a sub-county of Sh20 million by the end of 2016. We have come from as low as Sh8 million to double the revenue within a year since I joined this area,'' he said.

Speaking to the press from his office on Wednesday, Abdi noted that his team has come up with a rapid result initiative (R.R.I), whereby they have formed groups and set up targets for the R.R.I groups to ensure that the county government workers have high morale in their work as they work to attain their targets.

He also stated that among the services they are targeting in producing revenue are markets, single business permits, approval of business plans and parking where according to the administrator, most of the revenue comes from.
