But the question now is, is it still the case? Many have worked and sacrificed many thing all because of education.

Some have sacrificed luxury and some have sold their properties so that they can acquire education. But is the sacrifice worth it?

Most students and pupils have always been encouraged to work hard as this will open for them opportunities. But is it the case?

Many have excelled as it was shown before the banning of ranking by the Ministry of Education.

Many during that time excelled but were neither recognised nor rewarded for their sterling performance.

They were even considered at the same level as others who did not do so well.

In the KCPE results that were released by Cabinet Secretary for Education Dr Fred Matiangi on December 30 last year, a candidate by the name Asaka Alphonce performed well by scoring 399 marks from a public primary school called Bar Union Primary School.

The boy was called to join a national school, Kanga High School.

The sad fact however, is that, the boy may not be able to join school because of lack of school fees.

He tried applying for scholarships but was unsuccessful.

If education was rewarding then he could have gotten the scholarship since he is the best in his Nyahera zone in Kisumu WEst constituency.
