Education is key for development in every country.
Kenya is by no chance an exception to this as the country needs education to steer the economy forward.
To achieve excellence in the education sector, the cost of education should be made affordable to all Kenyans.
In the recent past, parents have complained of the high amount of fees required by many secondary schools management.
Some parents with sons in Maseno School complained of spending as high as slightly over one hundred thousand shillings by the end of the first year.
With many schools charging such high fees, the cost of secondary school education has become almost unbearable.
After many parents complaining about the matter, the government intervened.
The ministry of education gave out guidelines to school heads to lower the amount of money charged as school fees. On the government's intervention, parents uttered a sigh of relief not knowing what awaited them.
However, even after the ministry giving out the guidelines, it is disappointing to note that the situation has not changed.
A parent whose child learns in Maseno School as well as many other parents confess that the situation has not changed. The cost of education should be lowered for all Kenyans to afford.
For this to happen, the government, through the ministry of education should not just give guidelines but also reinforce them.
The school heads should also be ready to stick by the guidelines.
This will ensure that every Kenyan student gets access to affordable and quality education.
