Residents of Gachege in Gatundu North sub county have been urged to join savings credits and cooperative societies to access affordable funding.

Speaking in Gachege on Tuesday, Morris Kugwa, a businessman noted that the residents should form cooperatives societies so that they can source for funding from the government and donor agencies for development.

"Youths should also not live for today alone. They have a tomorrow which demands prior savings. Any optimistic and development oriented youngster should at least join one Sacco and start making simple savings which will not only help tomorrow but will also help them implement their ideas," he said.

Kugwa observed that people who work together in cooperatives have a strong bargaining power compared to those who work as individuals.

He pointed out that there are many individuals in the area who have benefited from being in groups such as women in the area who were given chicks to improve their livelihoods.

He further urged farmers to diversify and practice alternative means of farming such as dairy keeping and to stop depending too much on tea farming which is the main cash crop that is grown in the area.
