Nyamira Senator Okong’o Mong’are has challenged area youths who did not manage to achieve grades for middle level colleges and universities to consider joining village polytechnics to garner skills that could help then earn a living.

Speaking in Nyamusi region on Saturday during a fundraiser for Boda Boda operators, Okong’o noted that few number of youths are joining the institution despite massive investments by county governments.

“I would like to ask our youths who did not attain grades for middle level colleges and universities to join technical colleges. This is important because they will equip them with skills that can enable them earn a living,” Okong’o said.

“The county government has really invested in our village polytechnics, but it’s sad that only few people are interested in enrolling. We want to see more youths enrolling and I would like to challenge parents to collaborate with leaders to make this possible,” headed.

Okong’o also warned youths against engaging in criminal relayed activities, and urged provincial administration to work with the police to arrest and facilitate prosecution of such youths.

“Instead of joining criminal gangs to oppress our people, we have these polytechnics that you can join and get lifetime skills. I have seen many youths benefit from the skills they acquire from those polytechnics. I would like to challenge area chiefs to work with the police and arrest youths who have joined criminal gangs to frustrate hardworking people,” he said.

He also urged the count government to deploy more instructors cutting across all specialisations to the village polytechnics to attract a variety of training to the youths.
