The MPs led by the leader of Majority in the National Assembly Aden Duale claimed Cord is trying to intimidate the electoral body.

The MPs said that Cord wants to coerce and control the electoral body ahead of the 2017 general elections.

“From what we are seeing and also heard it is clear that Cord wants to control the IEBEC a move we will not allow,” said Duale.

The MPs who spoke at the Parliament Buildings in Nairobi on Wednesday said that IEBC is an independent body and should not be interfered with by politicians.

Duale asked IEBC chairman Isaacki Hassan  to take charge of the commission independently as it prepares for the next years general election.

Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a while addressing residents at Thika town on Wednesday said Cord leaders were trying to seek sympathy from the electoral body.

She said that IEBC needs to remain neutral to guarantee a fair and transparent election.

Kiambu senator Kimani Wamatangi on Tuesday also asked opposition leaders to stop politicizing the voter registration exercise and instead asked them to allow the electoral body conduct its work smoothly.

On Tuesday cord leaders led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga visited the IEBC offices in Nairobi seeking clarifications on how the voter registration kits were distributed to voting centers across the country.

The Cord leaders had complained that IEBC had allegedly allocated more voter kits to certain areas while other areas were allocated few kits.

The IEBC, however, clarified the matter saying that the voter registration kits were allocated basing on geographic locations and population size.
