Former Kitutu Masaba MP Mwancha Okioma has dismissed Friday’s appointments s of Dr Julius Kones, Katwa Kigen and Franklin Bett to various boards as tribal and challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta to desist from dividing Kenya into a nation of two communities.
Speaking on Friday at Mosobeti area, Mr Okioma said the government was ignoring other parts of the country and diverted its attention to Rift Valley and Central Kenya.
“It’s really disappointing that the president can gamble with the chance of uniting Kenyans by continuing to appoint people from Rift Valley and Central Kenya to state jobs. He is dividing the nation because it’s weird that he can make three appointments from the same region,” he said.
Mr Okioma slammed the president and his deputy for allegedly succumbing to ‘minor’ pressure from the South Rift following the rebellion which the DP received during the recently concluded Kericho by-election.
“What they have to understand is that this is a country of 40 two tribes and trying to only reward a small section of the country is prejudicial. We understand that the appointments come after the rebellion which the DP faced from his backyard during Kericho by-election but that doesn’t justify their act. We cannot move tribal simply because one is getting pressure from his backyard,” he said.
He also accused the president of neglecting the youths in most of his appointments and urged him to change his ‘attitude’ on matters governance.
“The appointments a part from being tribal, they only favored people who have worked for a longtime. He must change his attitude and start rewarding the youths. I believe there are youths from Rift Valley and central who should have been appointed,” he said.
