A youth group in Kabete has launched an environmental initiative aimed at creating jobs and keeping the area clean.
Speaking Friday at Umma House in Kabete, chairman of Vijana Tuimarike youth group Edward Kariuki said they started the Mazingira ni Sisi initiative following Pope Francis's message of love for environment and conservation.
The chairman said the drive was not only meant for the members but also the jobless youth and drug addicts.
He said by so doing, they will also help contribute to the region’s development since by keeping such individuals busy, they will stay away from drug abuse and criminal activities.
He said one of Pope's message was to maintain the conserving the environment.
He said they aimed to collect garbage in houses and unblocking sewages.
Kariuki also said due to the high rate of cutting down of trees, the youth will ensure they plant a tree everyday in different locations as part of the reforestation efforts.
"Doing this will help youth become busy and keep away from some vices in the community. We want to maintain what we have and also keeping the area clean," said Kariuki.
He called on Kabete residents to support the initiative through their support.
