Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has encouraged expectant mothers in the county to seek free maternity services in public health centres.
Speaking when he opened a Mother-Child clinic at Kagwe Health Centre in Lari Sub County on Tuesday, Kabogo said that the government has made maternal health services free of charge.
He said that free maternity services are being offered in all public centres adding that it is up to expectant women to seek them.
Kabogo noted that the number of expectant women seeking the services is still low in some parts of the county.
“We want to encourage pregnant mothers to seek the free maternity services being offered in public hospitals and health centres for better health and delivery,” he said.
Kabogo stated that the county is committed to providing quality healthcare to all locals. He said that adequate funds have been set aside to upgrade all public health centres.
He added that funds have been set aside to buy medicine for all hospitals and health centres.
Kiambu is among counties that received a huge chunk of the free maternity funds disbursed by the national government last week.
The county received Sh68 million to oversee the provision of free maternity services.
