Kiambu County Governor William Kabogo has urged religious leaders to spearhead unity among Kenyans this electioneering period.

Speaking during a church service at Kambui PCEA church in Ruiru on Sunday, Kabogo said that religious leaders have a crucial role to play in uniting Kenyans.

The Kiambu governor said peace and unity among Kenyans is key to development.

He said that some leaders take advantage of the electioneering period to divide Kenyans on tribal lines.

“Religious leaders should be on the front line in agitating for peace and unity as we head to the 2017 general elections,” said Kabogo.

The Kiambu County boss said that his government will work with religious leaders to foster peace.

He said that measures aimed at encouraging cohesion among residents are being implemented.

The governor noted that the county has all types of tribes adding that he will spearhead unity of the people.

Kabogo also cautioned politicians against divisive politics and instead asked hem to engage in constructive politics.

He said that some politicians were engaging in divisive politics a move he said could easily cause animosity among the people.

The governor also pledged to support church programmes across the county.

At the same time, Kabogo reminded residents to register as voters in the ongoing exercise. He said residents will only be able to participate in the 2017 general elections if they register as voters.

Kabogo was accompanied by ODM nominated MP Isaac Mwaura among other leaders.
